In 1982, Jennifer Holliday followed up her success playing “Effie” in the original Broadway production of “Dreamgirls” with her first album , “Feel My Soul” was released on the Geffen Records and produced by Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire fame and would go to #31 on the Billboard Charts and #6 on the R&B/Hip Hop albums chart.

Jennifer Holliday – No Frills Love (1985)

Jennifer Holliday began her career on Broadway in 1979 at the age of 19, two years later would come the role that she would become best known for, Effie in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls.  Jennifer would remain with the show for four years and would win a Tony Award, Grammy Award, and Drama Desk and Theater World Awards, she would also take the iconic track “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” to No.1 on the Billboard R&B Charts in 1982.

With this success, Jennifer continued her recording career into the 80’s and and this 1985 hit is for me, one of her best.

Written by Arthur Baker, Gary Henry and Tina B. Produced, Arranged And Mixed By Arthur Baker and Edited By Shep Pettibone.
