They went on to be an influential dance trio, masterminded by Soul Train producer Don Cornelius. As noted in the British Hit Singles & Albums, they were regarded as fashion icons and trendsetters, and helped to introduce ‘body-popping’ to the United Kingdom. Their collective name ‘Shalamar’ was picked by Griffey.

The single “Deadline U.S.A” was from the “D.C. Cab Soundtrack”.

D.C. Cab is a 1983 comedy film, starring Mr. T, Max Gail, Adam Baldwin, Gary Busey and a special appearance by singer Irene Cara. The film was co-written and directed by Joel Schumacher. The R-rated comedy was controversial upon release due to Mr. T’s appeal among children, which resulted in the film being mis-marketed in many regions.

“Deadline U.S.A.” was remixed by John “Jellybean” Benitez for the 12″ single release and reached #32 on the US R&B Charts.
