Black Uhuru – The Great Train Robbery (1986)

Black Uhuru are a Jamaican reggae group formed in 1972, the most successful line-up existed from 1979 to 1985 with the band consisting of Derek “Duckie” Simpson, Michael Rose, Sandra “Puma” Jones, Sly Dunbar, and Robbie Shakespeare.

Despite the success, Michael Rose left the band and Black Uhuru continued with the members now being Derrick “Duckie” Simpson, Delroy “Junior” Reid, and Sandra “Puma” Jones. This line-up released the album “Brutal” in 1986 which moved away from the reggae roots music they had become famous for.

The single “The Great Train Robbery” was remixed by New York dance producer Arthur Baker for the album. For the release of the 12″ single, Arthur Baker returned and as the sleeve says “mixed, remixed and remixed again” the track into a nearly ten minute dancehall classic.

If you even have a passing interest in Arthur Baker’s incredible work as an electro pioneer, this is must have.
