Dan Reed Network – Get To You (1988)

Shep Pettibone remixed this great track for the funk/rock outfit “Dan Reed Network” in 1988 but unfortunately it was only released on a US Mercury 12″ Promo. This has a real Prince vibe to it which is interesting as Shep had just remixed “Hot Thing” (1987) and “Glam Slam” (1988) for Prince.

Mercury Records released the Dan Reed Network’s debut album in 1988 but it unfortunately coincided with another Mercury release, Def Leppard’s “Hysteria” which was selling poorly in the US. Mercury decided to reduce their promotion on new artists to begin a hard push on Hysteria, which of course would go on to sell more than 20 million copies.

Despite the poor support from their record company, the Dan Reed Network were eventually offered the support slot on the final leg of Def Leppard’s US tour in return for switching to Def Leppard’s management team.  This turned out to be the break they were looking for and the following year their follow-up album “Slam’ would be produced by Nile Rodgers and they would secure support slots on major Europe/UK tours by Bon Jovi and Rolling Stones.

This was a difficult one to track down but is essential to any Shep collection.
