Nu Shooz ‎– Don’t Let Me Be The One (1986)

Nu Shooz is an American Freestyle-R&B-Dance group fronted by husband-and-wife team of John Smith and Valerie Day, based in Portland, Oregon. The Shooz released four albums in the U.S. during the 1980s, and it was its third album, Poolside, that brought the group’s sound to a wider audience.

Poolside was the band’s first major-label release (an earlier album, Can’t Turn It Off, was released by the Nebula Circle label in 1982 and a not-heavily promoted EP, Tha’s Right was released in 1985), and it was responsible for the group’s breakthrough on the pop and dance charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The album was certified gold by the RIAA later in the year for sales of over 500,000 units. It peaked on the American album chart at #27and spawned three singles that charted in the U.S.: “I Can’t Wait,” “Point of No Return,” and “Don’t Let Me Be the One.”

“Don’t Let Me Be the One” reached #39 on the US Dance Charts and was remixed by John Morales & Sergio Munzibai for the 12″ single release.
